How to select sunglasses?

Posted under designer sunglasses by admin on Monday 7 September 2009

Designer sunglasses look fashionable and must also protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. There are different varieties of sunglasses like sports sunglasses, aviator sunglasses, cycling sunglasses, fishing sunglasses, swimming sunglasses, polarized sunglasses, photo chromatic sunglasses, golf sunglasses, tennis sunglasses etc.

There are few steps to be considered while selecting sunglasses. First, you should check labels to make sure the sunglasses provide 100 percent UVA and UVB protection. Second, look for sunglasses that especially filter blue light as it is harmful to your eyes and can damage your retina. Going blind is not a cool look!  Third, look for polarized glass as it is the best at reducing the glare. Fourth, choose a lens color.  Gray is neutral and won’t affect color perception; orange-brown lenses are a good choice for those with macular degeneration, since they filter out UV and blue light rays for maximum eye protection; green lenses distort color less than other shades, such as red or yellow. Fifth, you can choose light weight, plastic, shatter proof sunglasses.

For men, large frame styles look good. Usually big sunglasses are preferred by men. Women wear designer sunglasses as a fashion accessory with feminine styling and color. They choose colors like pink, rose, white and purple. Kids should wear sunglasses for protecting their eyes from sun. Smaller frame infant sunglasses will provide complete coverage and should also come with an elastic strap to keep them on their heads. For a square face, round sunglasses will be good and for an oval face, frames should be proportionate with your face. Rectangular glass frames would be preferable for round faces.

So, select ideal designer sunglasses using the guidelines mentioned above.

How do polarized sunglasses work?

Posted under designer sunglasses by admin on Tuesday 1 September 2009

Ever go fishing and have the glare off the water hurt your eyes so much you can see? Or drive and have the glare so bright, you are afraid you will drive off the road? Polarized sunglasses can help prevent that. They are also great for bikers, golfers, skiiers and anyone else who enjoys the great outdoors.

The glare coming off the lake, the snow or any other flat surface light that is not absorbed and is sent back out in a horizontal direction instead of being scattered like light usually is. Polarized lenses have a filter that refracts the light to reduce the glare. It make it more comfortable to see.

The filter in the lens will allow only the light in that is in the opposite direction of the filter. So if the light is horizontal, the polarized lens will only allow vertical light in. If you have a pair of polarized glasses, you can check this out by rotating the glasses and you look at a horizontal reflective surface. The glare will increase as you rotate the glasses to allow the horizontal light in and block the vertical light. Polarized lenses can be great for reducing glare, but they can also make it difficult for you to see screens like a cell phone, GPS, or ATM. So make sure you are able to see everything you need to while wearing your sunglasses. They can be great, though, for a day on the lake or golfing on a sunny day.
